In only 2.5 km distance from Mykonos town, to the southwest, there is Ornos beach. Ornos beach is right in front of a small fishing village. It is one of the most popular beaches on the island, but over the high season can be really overcrowded. Fully organised, and a lot of good restaurants and taverns can be found there. A diving school, as well as ski school and windsurfing are also available. Some of the best hotels of the island are located around the beach. It is one of the few beaches that suggested as well for evening hours, as the restaurants and the beach bars stay open until late. Ornos is a wind protected beach, since this is very important for this windy island.
In a distance of 2.5 km from Mykonos town there is Korfos beach. Korfos faces north and it is exposed to the strong wind that might not be the best place for swimming when it is windy, but it is the best place for windsurfing. Not only the strong winds but also the shallow waters create waves, ideal for jumps and wave riding.
The beach of Agios Stefanos is the closest beach to Mykonos town and really protected from the winds. There are many water sports facilities and many taverns and hotels in the area. It gets really crowded during high season because of the short distance from the town.
Agrari along with Elia, 10 km from Mykonos town, making together a long sandy beach. Agrari is less popular than Elia and much calmer as well. Both can be reached by car, bus and taxi boat.
Elia in addition, is fully organised, long sandy beach and offers a great variety of taverns, café-bars and water sports. More quiet than other beaches in the island and pretty high in the preference of nudists.
Fokos Beach is located 13 km at the north east of Mykonos town. Because of its distance from the developed and organised southern beaches Fokos is very calm and quiet even in the high season. It can be reach only by private mean of transportation and it only has a really nice traditional tavern.
Ftelia beach is well known for the winds it receives, so pretty well known to the windsurfers. Peaceful and uncrowded even in the peak season.
Kalo Livadi is one of the longest beaches in Mykonos and well known for the parties and facilities that offer. It is located 10km from town and it is well organised with many umbrellas and sunbeds, as well as many hotels and taverns. Clean waters and relaxing atmosphere makes Kalo Livadi the ideal beach for families.
Megali Ammos is the closest beach to Mykonos town, located at a walking distance of 600m. Its name means large sand and it receives only a few visitors because it is located really close to the main street. There are few hotels and a small tavern just a few meters from the seashore. There are no umbrellas because of the strong winds and it is a beach suggested for walks along the shore and relax on the sand.
Platis Gialos is one of the most popular and overcrowded beaches of Mykonos, 5km south of town. Really organised beach with umbrellas, sunbeds, restaurants, bars, water sports. From the beach there are regular departures of taxi boats if you are interested in visit also Paraga, Agrari, Elia, Paradise and Super Paradise beaches.
